Information on how we work
Our operation is dedicated to the weather, our goal is to make visitors to areas that are supported with a dedicated professional wired or wireless weather center which contains the following:
Thermo-hygro transmitter, Wind sensor, and Rain sensor. These units can be run in a wired or wireless mode back to the computer that would be running the weather software for the updating to the website's. Visitors would have a place they can visit on the internet to see what the current conditions are up to the minute for the area they are planning on visiting, this would give them the details on the current temperatures, winds, and humidity and more. The Johnstown Weather Station is part of the SkyWarn Spotter program it is a voluntary program in which the pubic can participate and interact with your local NWS Office. Skywarn spotters are encouraged to relay critical weather information to their local NWS Office, in support of the Warning and Forecast Operations. The information they provide routinely helps the NWS Forecasters make better/more informed forecasts, and helps them to warn others of impending dangers or hazards.
Data from the Johnstown location is also transmitted to Weather Underground, Citizen Weather Observer Program, Weatherbug, Anything weather and AWEKAS Weather Map Network.
The Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) is a private-public partnership with three main goals:
1. To collect weather data contributed by citizens.
2. To make these data available for weather services and homeland security.
3. To provide feedback to the data contributors so that they have the tools to check and improve their data quality.
In fact, the web address, wxqa.com, stands for weather quality assurance.
